Married couples’ sex lives start to rebound after half a century together, a new study from Baylor University finds.
Researchers interviewed older spouses about their bedroom habits. True to conventional wisdom, the longer a couple had been married, the less often they slept together. That’s because sex with the same person can get less exciting as the years tick by, says study author Samuel Stroope, Ph.D., a professor of sociology at Baylor.
But the downward trend reversed at year 50. Spouses who made it that far without being parted by death or divorce reported having sex increasingly more often.
Researchers suspect that as couples spend more time together, they grow to value each other more, which motivates them to have sex. Over time, that motivation becomes strong enough to overcome the dampening effects of boredom, Stroope says.
And the study found that spouses who had more positive interactions together had more sex—so never underestimate the benefits of simply being kind to your other half.
Don’t hold out until year 50 to start getting busy in the bedroom on a regular basis, though. Take a cue from the more seasoned couples and Have Scorching Hot Sex with Your Wife right now.
