How to Save Money Without Thinking About It

In our culture of instant gratification, the idea of saving for the future might seem antiquated. But at a time when the economic deck seems stacked against you, thanks to a student loan debt crisis and fresh memories of the 2008 Wall Street meltdown, opening a savings account will give you a big advantage in the future.

According to a 2015 survey, just over 70 percent of Americans have less than $1,000 in savings and another 21 percent don't have a savings account at all. If you stash your cash under the mattress or in a no-interest checking account, you're actually losing money thanks to inflation. Here's why thinking about saving today will accelerate your financial health tomorrow.

The ABCs of Sex

F is for Flesh...Gordon. In the 1974 film parody of the Flash Gordon serials of the 1930s, the villainous Emperor Wang aims his Sex Ray at Earth to incapacitate human beings with insatiable sexual desires. In Sleeper, Woody Allen finds the Orgasmatron and the Orb for fighting frigidity. The Coneheads toss "sensor rings" onto one another's pointy appendages for pleasure in the 1993 movie. In the 1964 Barbarella, evil Dr. Durand-Durand teases Barbarella to the brink of orgasmic overdose with his Excessive Machine. And in 1999's The Spy Who Shagged Me, Austin Powers gets his mojo back.

Virginia Lawmakers Say Watching Porn Leads to Having Group Sex

This week, Virginia state lawmakers introduced a piece of legislation to combat what they believe to be an increasingly perilous threat to society: big, bad porn. Resolution HJ549, proposed by the House Committee on Health, Welfare, and Institutions, suggests pornography leads to “individual and societal harms.” More specifically, it mentions the hypersexualization of teenagers, infidelity, and even group sex.

Of course, it may not be hard to find a porn aficionado who has indulged in the occasional orgy, but it’s decidedly more difficult to find data proving that porn points its users in that direction. That’s because no such data exists. In fact, group sex doesn’t even rank in the top ten most searched terms across porn platforms. Statistics show that categories like “MILF” and “massage” are more likely to take the top spots.

This Drink Helps You Burn an Extra 490 Calories Per Week

You know that guzzling water can help take the edge off your hunger and nix the urge to snack in between meals. But guess what? That's not the only way that having plenty of water can help you reach your weight loss goals.

You shouldn't just be sipping the stuff when your stomach starts to rumble an hour before dinner. You should be drinking water all the time. (Okay, that's a little bit of an exaggeration. You don't literally need to gulp water 24/7. And your individual hydration depends on your size, activity level, and the climate where you live.)

But regardless: If you're trying to lose your spare tire, you probably should be sipping more often. Here are 3 surprising facts that'll make you reach for your reusable bottle.

5 Body Odors You Should Never Ignore

Whether you’ve just completed a grueling workout or chowed down on an onion-packed burger, chances are, at one time or another, you’ve been that guy who stunk up the room. In most cases, a simple shower, swipe of deodorant, or line of minty-fresh toothpaste could remedy the situation. But in other cases, it’s not so simple.

That’s because your body odor can actually speak volumes about your health. In fact, some diseases can actually produce a unique, distinguished odor, according to a recent Swedish study.

So which funky fumes should you take note of? Here are 5 common body odors that might signal a serious problem—and what you should do if the stench arises.

BODY ODOR: FRUITY BREATH IS A SYMPTOM OF DIABETES
Credit a complication of diabetes called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), which occurs when your body runs low on insulin and your blood sugar spikes, says Robert Gabbay, M.D., Ph.D., chief medical officer at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. People with type 1 diabetes generally experience it more than those with type 2 diabetes do.

8 Sex Habits Of Incredibly Happy Couples

Sex is to a happy relationship what butter is to a lobster feast: Totally and completely necessary. “It’s something you do with your partner that most people don’t do with anyone else, so it sets the relationship apart and makes it special,” says clinical psychologist Ursula Ofman, Psy.D. Ready to make the most of that exclusive bond? Here, experts share the bedroom routines that separate the so-in-love couples from the rest. Try them out and recapture that can’t-keep-your-hands-off-one-another feeling in no time flat.

8 Things You Say On First Dates That Guarantee You Won’t Get a Second

While perusing our menus at a restaurant, Francois, a retired French race care driver, leans into my ear and whispers in his heavy French accent, “I can’t wait until your tongue is in my ass later.”

It was our first date.

And we hadn’t even ordered yet.

Without looking up from the appetizer list, I replied, “Sorry, that is not on the menu.”

Neither was a second date.

Ok, you probably know better than to ask a woman for analingus before appetizers. But that’s not the only verbal slipup that can kill your chances for a second date. We talked to than a dozen women about their real-world experiences on first dates to find out what else you should avoid saying. Read on for eight phrases to eliminate from your first-date vocabulary.

11 Shocking Facts You Never Knew About Masturbation

Masturbation. It’s not just a great way to kill time, but it’s also the safest sex you can have. And it has many health benefits.

Although we can all agree that masturbation is pretty much the cherry on top of the ice cream of life, there’s more to the act than that. Here are 11 things you probably never knew about your favorite hobby.

1. MALE FETUSES MIGHT MASTURBATE IN UTERO
If you thought the first time you touched yourself and realized it felt really, really good was when you hit puberty, you might be wrong. Researchers in Spain recently found that in utero masturbation is actually a thing among male fetuses, so this “gratification behavior” starts far earlier than originally thought.

Does Dairy Really Cause Acne?

Acne sucks. But for a condition that affects so many people, there are still a lot of unknowns with it. One of the most controversial: Can what you eat or drink cause you to break out?

Dairy has been one of the most commonly discussed culprits in whether your diet can be to blame. But whether your love of cheese is directly causing your outbreak is still up for debate, as there are plenty of myths about what causes zits.

10 Sex Positions That Practically Guarantee Her Orgasm

When it comes to having so-good-your-neighbors-hate-you sex, making sure you stimulate her clitoris is rule number one.

“Research shows it’s clitoral stimulation, not vaginal stimulation, that is the powerhouse of the female orgasm,” says sex therapist Ian Kerner, Ph.D., author of She Comes First.

Given that her clitoris can be anywhere from 2.5 to 4 centimeters away from her vaginal entrance, lots of sex positions won’t exactly do the trick, says Kerner.

Here’s How Many Women Regret Their One-Night Stand

Even if no-strings-attached sex seems great at the moment, post-sex regret might creep up with the sunrise. And it seems to occur more for women than men, a study from Norway suggests.

Researchers asked 263 people ages 19 to 37 how much they regretted either engaging in or passing up a recent casual sex experience. About 35 percent of women surveyed expressed regret, compared to just 20 percent of men. Plus, only 30 percent of women said they were happy with their most recent one-night stand, while around 50 percent of men said the same.

How Your Relationship Changes When You Finally Move In Together

There comes a moment in every couple’s life when it’s time to shack up. Maybe you’ve been together for a solid year or two and moving in together is the next natural step. Maybe you already keep a toothbrush at each other’s place, and signing both of your names on one lease is just a formality. But what happens after you finally pack up your crap and set up shop at a new spot? After one Reddit user recently posed the question, “What changed the most when you moved in together?” we combed through the respondents’ best answers to find out what really goes down after you start sharing a key.

3 Easy Ways to Make Her Want You—Right Now

Keeping the flame ignited in a long-term relationship isn’t about tantra or buying her new lingerie (though those may not hurt either).

Instead, the secret to lasting sexual desire is something called responsiveness, researchers say.

Great! So…what the heck is that?

That’s when you show your partner that you value them—that you understand and appreciate their needs and support their goals, says study author Gurit Birnbaum, Ph.D., a psychology professor at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya in Israel.

Why You Have Heinous Bad Breath After Eating Dairy—and How to Fix It

Milk breath. Cheese mouth. The sour stench of worst-date nightmares. What the heck is this foul demon odor and how does one exorcise it?

First, you have to understand your enemy.

You probably don’t think about your mouth this way, but it’s technically part of your digestive tract. Chewing is only the first step of digestion.

“Imagine millions of bacteria feasting on particles of food and tissue in our mouth, some giving off smelly waste,” says David Krol, M.D., former chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Oral Health.

The 5 Worst Things to Do After Your Workout

While going to the gym can become routine after a certain amount of time, there are definitely ways you can mess up your fitness efforts if you engage in bad habits immediately afterwards.

From my experience of working with athletes over the years as an exercise physiologist, here are the top 5 worst things you could do post-workout.

POST-WORKOUT MISTAKE #1: YOU STAY IN YOUR GYM CLOTHES
Get out of damp gear immediately.

Even if you didn’t sweat that much, worn or soggy clothing is an environment bacteria love to cling to, and it can also give you a deep chill that is hard to recover from.

I Went To a Hands-On Female Orgasm Class. Here’s What Happened.

How wild is your sex life? Take this survey to find out!

Orgasmic meditation (OM) is a mindfulness practice originating in Buddhist tradition, in which a man strokes the upper left quadrant of a woman’s clitoris for 13 minutes while she’s lying down in a “nest” of pillows.

Devotees swear it’s improved everything from their intuition to their fine motor skills—and gush about how close and connected they feel to their partners. So when I got the chance to test it out at OneTaste orgasmic meditation studio in San Francisco, well, I had to see if it was worth the hype.

You Know What, Blue Wine Can Go Straight To Hell

A Spanish company—we won’t say winemaker, because that would be too generous—is producing an electric blue wine called Gïk, according to a new report from BBC Travel.

Made with a mixture of white and red grapes “whose color and flavor we improve through food tech,” Gïk’s producers say their wine is “sweeter and easier to drink” than traditional vino.

Nope. There’s so much wrong with this that it’s hard to know where to begin.

“F—king hilarious,” says Keith Wallace, founder of the Wine School of Philadelphia. “This is basically a wine for 15-year-olds who are used to drinking soda.”

Nearly Half Of All Heart Attacks Occur Without You Even Knowing It

A heart attack might not hurt as much as you think—in fact, you might not even know you had one, according to research from the Wake Forest School of Medicine.

In the study, researchers added up the number of clinically-diagnosed heart attacks and “silent” heart attacks—events that were undiagnosed at the time but were confirmed by electrocardiogram (EKG) afterwards—that occurred in more than 9,000 people during a 9-year follow up.

They discovered that 45 percent of all the heart attacks were silent.

7 Easy Ways to Fix Your Mediocre Sex Life

Some sex is so-so. Some is spectacular. But it actually doesn’t take much effort to turn a routine romp into a mind-blowing experience.

Many people assume it’s a lost cause when sex starts to get boring and just go through the motions, says Sadie Allison, author of Ride ‘Em Cowgirl! Sex Position Secrets for Better Bucking.

“But it’s definitely possible to initiate change in the middle of sex,” she says.

Here are seven ways you can transform OK sex into a night you’ll both never forget.

Sex Tip: Touch Her Here

There are ways to be touched that are brilliant and other ways that are kind of blah. If there's one thing we know about the way people touch each other during sex it's that they often touch their partner the way that they, themselves, like to be touched rather than finding out how their partner likes to be touched.

Although there's a lot of variability in how people like touch, it tends to be the case that men - whose genitals are covered in skin and less sensitive than women's - tend to prefer rougher forms of touch. More thrusting, more vigor. Whereas women - whose genitals are more vulnerable and some ways and more sensitive  in some spots (hello, clitoris!) - tend to prefer less aggressive touch. Women often prefer gentle tongue flicks on the clitoris or gentle but first stimulation of their genitals. Again, this isn't always the case - there are no clear gender rules in sex - but generally speaking this is often how things fall out.

How to Fix a Boring Marriage

After the wedding, lots of couples can feel a letdown, and they begin to get bored, says Rachel A. Sussman, L.C.S.W., author of The Breakup Bible.

“The excitement of dating has passed, the excitement of falling in love has passed, the excitement of the engagement and the wedding has passed, then it gets stale,” she says.

Here’s what it means if your relationship is going dull—and how to get out of a rut without breaking up.

It’s easy to roll your eyes at suggestions about how to be a better partner.

You know the things you should be doing, like scheduling a monthly date night.

But who has time for it all?

You do, actually.

5 Dangerous Mistakes You Make With Over-the-Counter Painkillers

More than 9 out of every 10 Americans use over-the-counter meds to manage pain, a new survey from the U.S. Pain Foundation found.

If you take them correctly, OTC painkillers are generally safe and effective, says Charles Vega, M.D., a clinical professor of health sciences at the University of California at Irvine.

But too many people don’t take the pills seriously—and skip the fine print on the bottle as a result, says Charles Vega, M.D., a clinical professor of health sciences at the University of California at Irvine.

3 New Workouts That Burn Fat Fast

You’ve long heard that abs are made in the kitchen. And while that adage is true, what you do in the gym counts, too.

“Exercise is way underrated when it comes to fat loss,” says BJ Gaddour, Men’s Health Fitness Director, C.S.C.S.

The key is to incorporate a variety of types of training, from cardio to strength training to metabolic conditioning, Gaddour says.

The 6 Biggest Mistakes Couples Make In Bed

You probably didn’t need a study to tell you this, but research confirms that sex is one of the most crucial ingredients to making long-term relationships thrive.

Early on, feeling sexy and passionate isn’t hard—but things can get trickier as the years go on.

Hoping to bust out of a dry spell or prevent the fire from fading? Don’t make these common mistakes.

5 Fights Every Happy Couple Should Have

Whether you’re in the throes of newlywed bliss or you’re creeping toward your 20th wedding anniversary, one thing is for sure: You and your wife are bound to have a few heated fights along the way.

But flare-ups aren’t necessarily a bad thing. “Some arguing is necessary in a relationship,” says NYC-based marriage and family therapist Jane Greer, Ph.D.

“If you never make it clear that you disagree with one another, then the anger and resentment go underground and come out in retaliatory behaviors, which can weaken your relationship,” she says.

Power Up Your Routine

Whether you’re a weekend warrior, professional athlete, or somewhere in between, it’s key to remember that a healthy lifestyle is more than simply crushing your workout routine — fueling your body properly throughout the day is just as important. In a perfect world, we’d have all the time in the world to prepare healthy meals and snacks from scratch, but with schedules jam-packed like never before, that’s often a pipe dream. And while most health-conscious folks know their way around menus to select the most nutritious options, it’s all-too-easy to succumb to sugary or carb-rich snacks. So the next time you’re heading to the gym or about to embark on a busy day, grab a snack that’s high in protein while low in carbs and sugar, eliminating the dreaded sugar spike and crash. Our Men’s Health and Women’s Health Action Heroes know this is easier said than done. They’re here to help with some advice on how they fuel and re-fuel throughout their busy, active days with the new Atkins Lift line of protein bars and drinks.

Treat Her to a "Nipple Orgasm"

Nipple orgasms are much more common than you might think, Lou Paget writes in The Big O.

Dr. Herbert Otto describes the breast orgasm as happening at the peak of stimulation when the sensation seems to radiate from the breasts. He claims that it is the second most common form of orgasm among women, which seems especially true of women from our grandmothers' and mothers' generations, who were less likely than modern women to go "all the way." In Dr. Otto's study group of 213 women, 29 percent of the women had experienced a breast orgasm at one time or another.

How to Fix Your Stiff Neck In 60 Seconds

A knot in any muscle is a nuisance, but it’s especially frustrating when the offender is lodged in your neck or upper back.

And while getting a massage can work out the kink, chances are you don’t have time on your way to work to let the professionals get their hands on it.

Relax: You can actually knead away the cramp yourself in one minute, courtesy of Allyn Kakuk, D.P.T., a wellness physical therapist at the Mayo Clinic. Here’s how.

How to Get Rid Of Eczema

Dry skin is a standard skin issue—but what happens when your go-to moisturizer just isn’t cutting it?

If your dry skin looks red or patchy, or feels dry or itchy, it could be more than just dry skin. You may have a condition called eczema.

What Is Eczema?
Eczema—also known as dermatitis—is an itchy skin condition that usually shows up where your skin folds, like your elbows and knees, says Emma Guttman-Yassky, M.D., Ph.D., professor of dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

What to Do When She Asks You How Many Women You’ve Slept With

Could your sexual history make or break your relationship? That’s what a new (unscientific) survey conducted by Superdrug Online Doctor, an online pharmacy in the UK, suggests.

In the survey of more than 2,000 Europeans and Americans, 30 percent of the respondents said they’d be at least somewhat likely to end a relationship if they found out their partner had too many previous sexual partners.

What the heck is “too many”?

On average, the women surveyed said they’d consider anyone who had slept with 15 or more partners as “too promiscuous.” Men set the limit at 14 partners.

Should You Tell Your Partner You Cheated?

You screwed up, and now you’re in a bind: Do you keep quiet or confess? It’s a complex dilemma without a one-size-fits-all solution.

“There are no universal rules about coming clean,” says Michele Weiner-Davis, M.S.W., a Colorado-based marriage therapist. “For some couples, the truth can help them begin to heal in an honest and open way.”

In other cases, though, it can lead to a painful breakup, she says.

Here, marriage counselors explain how to determine which course of action you should choose—and how to minimize the damage for both you and your partner.

6 Things You Can Do to Become a Morning Person

At 6 a.m., you might barely have the energy to chug a cup of coffee, let alone go for a run, plan out your day, and start your to-do list.

While it’s tempting to sleep in, waking up with the sun has its own perks—follow these simple tips, and you might even look forward to getting out of bed.

1. STOP SLEEPING IN ON WEEKENDS
It confuses your system, says Frank Scheer, Ph.D., a neuroscientist at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

9 Ways Experts Can Tell If Your Relationship Is Going to Survive

Every couple argues, has dry spells, and hits a rough patch sooner or later. If you’re in the middle of one right now, you might be wondering: “Is my relationship going to make it?”

While there’s no guarantee that any relationship will work, couples therapists say these nine signs indicate that yours will survive.

1. YOU HAVE FUN TOGETHER
“The skills couples need to keep intimacy alive in a long-term relationship aren’t obvious because people don’t talk about them,” says Tina B. Tessina, Ph.D., psychotherapist and author of Money, Sex and Kids: Stop Fighting about the Three Things That Can Ruin Your Marriage.

“Most couples need to lower their expectations of romance and glamour and raise the level of fun they have together,” she says. This means having regular dates and check-in talks, plus taking time to enjoy activities together.

Always Exhausted? You Might Have One Of These Conditions

When your immune system is grappling with a disease, that fight requires energy.

So it’s probably not surprising that almost any disease you can name has fatigue listed among its symptoms.

“Fatigue may be the most common symptom people report, and in and of itself it can’t point you toward a diagnosis,” says Roxanne Sukol, M.D., a preventive medicine specialist at Cleveland Clinic.

Also complicating matters: “There are so many different ways to measure fatigue,” says Anne Cappola, M.D., of the University of Pennsylvania’s Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.

Why You Should See an Eye Doctor Regularly - Even If You Think Your Vision Is Great

Even if you’re not squinting to see the clock, it doesn’t mean your eyes are in the clear: Many people have vision problems and don’t even know it, a new study published in Optometry and Vision Science suggests.

The researchers found that 58 percent of people with no known vision symptoms when they went in for a routine eye exam actually had at least one significant change noted by their eye doctor.

In the majority of the cases, the diagnoses were relatively minor, like the need for glasses or contacts or an updated prescription for their eye gear.

Still, walking around with an outdated prescription isn’t exactly harmless: You’re more likely to experience eyestrain, headache, and dizziness, according to lead researcher Elizabeth Irving, Ph.D., professor of optometry and vision science at the University of Waterloo.

Why 42% Of Women Would Rather Eat a Nice Dinner Than Have Sex With You

Lobster: Better than an orgasm?

That’s what more than 2 in 5 women would say, according to a recent (unscientific) survey directed by Havas Worldwide, an advertising company, and Market Probe International, a market research company.

In the survey of nearly 12,000 people worldwide, about half of both men and women said they thought eating could be as pleasurable as sex.

To top off that romantic stat, the researchers also forced the subjects to pick (hypothetically) between sex and an excellent dinner at a restaurant. Given the choice, 42 percent of the women would take the dinner, please. That’s compared to just 26 percent of men.

6 Things You Should Do With Your Wife As Soon As You Wake Up

When your alarm goes off, the first thing you probably think of is your to-do list: Get the kids ready for school. Pick up your dry cleaning. Turn in that presentation to your boss.

But there’s one major thing you’re probably forgetting: the person right next to you.

Sure, you think about your partner. You send each other texts throughout the day, and you both put in the effort for an occasional date night. But do you actually take the time every day to truly pause and connect?

The morning is the perfect time for this—not only because what you do first thing can set the tone for the rest of the day, but because you haven’t already gotten bogged down with other responsibilities.

New Research: Your Risk Of 10 Types Of Cancer Dramatically Increases If You Are Overweight

Pack on the pounds and you might gain more than just a spare tire: Excess weight raises your cancer risk more than previously thought, new research suggests.

Prior studies have already linked higher weights to an increased risk of 5 types of cancer: colon, esophagus, kidney, breast, and uterine (the last two for women only.)

Now, after analyzing more than 1,000 studies that looked at excess weight and cancer risk, researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) have added 8 more types of cancer to the list.

Sexy Statements that Turn Her On

The first time I got naked with Ben, somewhere between peeling off my shirt and unzipping my jeans, he whispered, "You're all soft and shit."

It looks pathetic in print, but at the time, my knees turned to pudding. It helped that his voice was steady and soft, his lips close to my ear. That his words were an endearing mix of tender and guy. That he said it at the moment his hands were securely wrapped around the small of my back and his bare chest was pressed against mine; the moment when I'll believe anything a man tells me.

Later, as we lay facing each other, listening to John Mayer, Ben locked his brown eyes with mine, leaned in, and said, "You do good work."

"Your Body Is a Wonderland" played, and I swallowed a gag. I felt like a whore, and when he finally fell asleep, I dressed in the dark and went home.

Ben was a good guy—he did good work, too, while it lasted. He just didn't understand the power that his words, no matter how innocent, could have on a naked woman. How in five simple whispered words, a man can set a woman throbbing. How in 3 seconds and four syllables he can so crushingly disappoint. How easy it is to do both without realizing it.

How to Resolve Those Stupid (but Heated) Fights With Your Partner

The easiest way to end an argument might be to jump into a time machine, suggests a new study from the University of Waterloo.

You won't use this machine to go back in time to stop the fight from happening (although, wouldn’t that be nice). Instead, you’ll use it to look into the future.

The researchers asked more than 500 people to think about an unresolved conflict between themselves and a partner or close friend.

The particpants who imagined how they would feel about the spat in one year were more likely to reinterpret the conflict, be more forgiving, and avoid assigning blame than those who thought about how the conflict made them feel today. It changed their perspective.

How to Make a Shake That Will Actually Keep You Full For Hours

Making your shake thicker can trick your brain into keeping you full for longer, new Dutch research suggests.

Researchers had 15 men try two different shakes, both on an empty stomach on different days. One shake was 100 calories and thick like pudding while another was 500 calories but thin like milk.

The researchers then measured the amount of food in the subjects’ stomachs with an MRI and surveyed them on how hungry they felt for the next hour and a half.

Even though the 500-calorie shake stayed in the subjects’ stomachs for longer, the 100-calorie shake kept them feeling as full or more full than the higher-calorie one.

How to Last Longer in Bed

You’ve tried crunching baseball stats. You've mentally replayed your last round of golf. You've outlined the steps to making your favorite sandwich. But the more you try to last longer in bed, the faster you finish—and you’re not alone.

“Premature ejaculation is a problem that affects almost every man at some point in his life,” says Thomas J. Walsh, M.D., a urologist at the University of Washington.

Dr. Walsh says there are primarily two methods if you want to last longer in bed: physical and psychological treatments. While physical remedies target the sensations you feel during sex, psychological solutions address your worry, stress, or other mental factors that may explain your quick trigger, Dr. Walsh explains.

How Diabetes May Raise Your Fatal Heart Attack Risk By 50 Percent

Your heart health depends on more than what’s going on in your chest: Having diabetes increases your chances of dying from a heart attack, a new study from the University of Leeds suggests.

After tracking more than 700,000 people for 8 years, the researchers discovered that those with diabetes were 56 percent more likely to die from a STEMI heart attack—where your coronary artery is completely blocked—and 39 percent more likely to die from a NSTEMI heart attack—where your coronary artery is partially blocked—than people without the condition.

What Every Guy With Freckles Needs to Know

Freckles get a bum rap, since many people associate them with less-than-stellar sun care.

But is your speckled skin really signaling that you’re at risk of sun damage or even skin cancer?

They may not mean what you think—find out to discover what’s spotting your skin, and how that may affect your health.

What Are Freckles, Really?
If you have ephelides, as they’re known medically, you’ve got Mom and Dad to thank.

Freckling is a recessive trait, so both parents have to be carriers and pass the tendency on for it to show up, says Amit Sharma, M.D., a dermatologist at the Mayo Clinic, who researches dermatologic genetics.

The One Thing That Never Fails to Turn a Woman On

Ali Eaves, the Men’s Health Girl Next Door, takes all your questions on women, love, and lust.

What’s the one thing that never fails to light a woman’s fire?
—Ben from Charleston, South Carolina

Sometimes my husband lets me “catch” him watching the dirty video we made on vacation in Jamaica a few years ago. It’s probably a ploy, but it works every time.

The idea that he’d rather look at me than one of those barely legal blondes on PornHub? Swoon.

But even if you’ve never filmed any sexy home movies together, the idea is this: Find a way to convey that it’s her that you want. Urgently.

Women love to feel wanted. Neuroscientist Ogi Ogas, Ph.D., once told Men’s Health that female sexual fantasies center on the feeling of being desired. That feeling can instantly trigger her arousal.

Eating Fruits and Vegetables Could Make You As Happy As Getting a Job

Science has found another reason to eat more fruits and vegetables—eating enough of them could make you a happier person, according to new Australian research.

More than 12,000 people were surveyed twice about how many fruits and vegetables they typically ate—once in 2007, and again in 2009.

During both of those surveys, the subjects also rated their overall life satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 10.

Researchers looked at how each person’s fruit and vegetable consumption and happiness changed over those two years, and found that with each extra serving of fruits and vegetables people ate, the happier they felt.

How Much Protein Can Your Muscles Absorb In One Sitting?

It would seem logical that the more protein you pack away during a meal, the bigger your muscles would grow.

But your body doesn’t work that way. There’s a certain amount of protein your muscles can absorb in one sitting.

“Skeletal muscle protein synthesis is maximized by 25 to 35 grams of high-quality protein during a meal,” says Doug Paddon-Jones, Ph.D., a professor of nutrition and metabolism at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

“Protein synthesis” is basically a fancy way of saying “building and repairing muscle.” Exercise creates microtears in your muscles. The harder you work, the more tears. Protein helps repair these tears, causing your muscles to grow bigger and stronger.

5 Surprising Reasons You’re Suddenly Broke

You’ve learned from experience that shopping for food on an empty stomach is a bad idea. (Nothing like handing empty bags of chips to the cashier.)

But buying clothes when you’re hungry is even worse for your wallet, finds recent research from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Feeling hungry fires up your brain’s “acquisition” system, the study authors say. Think of it as your “I need something” reflex: Even though the thing you need is food, that reflex makes you more likely to spend money on non-food items, the study shows
